Guidelines for EFAP
Number of sessions

Individuals are covered for 2 hours of counselling per month.

Families are covered for up to 3 hours per month.

EFAP notes that 10 hours per client/family is estimated to be higher than the average usage; therefore, if a Counsellor deems it necessary to meet with an individual or family for more than 10 sessions, the counsellor must submit the appropriate paperwork.
Eligibility

Permanent, Temporary, Casual and Part-time Employees are included.

An employee must work for six months, to become eligible to utilize the program.

Police Officers and Firefighters are eligible immediately on their date of hire.

Employees that have been terminated are covered for six months following the date of their termination.

Employees that have resigned, coverage ceases upon last day of employment.

In the event of death of an active employee: from the date of death of the employee, the spouse and eligible dependents have up to two years to commence counselling and are eligible for counselling for one year from the date of the first counselling session.

Retirees, their spouse and eligible dependents are covered for 1 year from date of retirement.

Dependents:

The employees natural, adopted, or stepchildren who are dependent upon the employee for financial care and support. Dependent children must be:

a) Unmarried,
-
b) Unemployed, and
-
c) Less than 21 years of age; or if younger than 26 years of age, they must be attending an accredited educational institution, college or university on a full-time basis (enrolled in a minimum of 3 classes).

Dependent children who are physically or mentally challenged will be covered beyond the limiting age.

Maternity/Parental Leave: Employees are covered while on maternity or parental leave for 1 year.

Educational Leave: Employees are covered for six months.

Deferred Salary Leave: Employees are covered for the entire period of the leave.

*The Mayor and all City Councillors are not eligible for Program services.
